It’s Never too Late to Learn!
Program description on main NSCC site »
The Adult Learning Program has great courses designed for adult students who want to complete their high school graduation requirements. The program offers enough credit courses to earn a Nova Scotia High School Graduation Diploma for Adults (NSHSGDA). These credits can also be combined with formerly earned Grade 11 or 12 credits to add up to a total of 12 credits, enough for a Grade 12 diploma.. This is a real diploma! It can be used to gain entrance into other post-secondary programs.
Our exceptional instructors are eager to help and willing to go the extra mile.
The Academic Chair is the person who manages the ALP program.
There is also a team of professional, friendly folks in the Centre for Student Success (CSS), who are there to provide a variety of services and supports. They help students to choose career paths, talk about personal problems, change courses, get help for special needs, explore post-secondary programs, settle disagreements, or find out about Campus activities.. In fact, one member of CSS is a counselor whose primary job is to offer support and services to ALP students.
Applicants must be at least nineteen years of age and out of school for 1 year.
Prospective students apply to ALP using the regular college application, available at any campus or online ( http://www.nscc.ns.ca/admissions/).
Within a month, all applicants get a call from the campus closest to them.
The call is followed by an Intake/Assessment interview with the ALP counselor to determine eligibilityand to determine how NSCC can best serve the applicant.
The program runs every September until May of the following year.
Intake is done regularly so you can apply anytime during the year.
Classes are regularly scheduled, full-time, five days a week excluding statutory holidays.
Students work within the Individualized System of Instruction (ISI). This means that they can work at a reasonably comfortable personal rate to maximize their learning and potential.
Classes are conducted in a respectful adult atmosphere
